Grades 1-2 & 7-8 River Palace Hotel
Grades 1-2 and 7-8 spent time on Tuesday morning working on compass bearings and directions from the roof of the River Palace Hotel (Renco). This is one of the best places to get a good view of the city and from here the children could map the surrounding land and spot different buildings on various compass bearings. They also enjoyed a very light sprinkling of snow while on the roof.

We are planning to have kids from school performing during the breakfast, and several middle school kids have already volunteered. If your child would like to perform, please email Ms. Thomas at jthomas@daiskz.org. (Note: There will be a piano in the clubhouse, but all other instruments must be brought from home.) If you have questions, please contact Rebecca Godard.
DAIS-QSI Sports
This afternoon the middle school will be joined by sixteen QSI students for some shared sports activities either on the school field or in the gym depending on the weather. We will have some light refreshments at the end of the activities.
Reading Aloud With Children: Ms. Carlson
As was mentioned in the Gazetta last week we often read aloud with the younger children but many benefits can still be gained from reading aloud to all children from material that is a little above what they themselves are reading on their own. Reading aloud can happen in many ways, at many times, for many different purposes.
Begin Your Day with Reading
Take a few moments in the morning to read a shared few lines of poetry. Lay in bed in the morning with the same chapter book you fell asleep reading together the night before. Use it as a point of connection as you begin your day.
Revisit Old Favorites
Revisit books that your kids have loved or even just liked in the past. Let the stories be re-experienced and see what comes up. Revisiting books again and again can offer new ways to look at a story they already know. They will see new richness in the piece when given the opportunity to hear it time and again, and may grow to have a deeper understanding of messages that lie within the text.
Kg to Fire station
Tomorrow morning Kindergarten will be taking a trip to a local fire station. More news of their experiences next week.
