Goodbye Madison and Allison
Sadly today was the last day in school for Madison and Allison Bell. They are moving to Saudi Arabia for another international adventure. I would like to thank Peggy and Dean for the many times they have helped with DAIS activities. The “Damsel in Distress” event at the swimming gala will never be the same without Dean. We wish you all the best of luck.

Caveman Carnival and Dress-up Day – Friday May 7th
The Caveman Carnival and Dress-up Day, an activity for elementary students, will take place tomorrow Friday May 7th.  Photos in the lobby at 8:05am.
In the school lobby at 3:15pm the children will be divided into four groups, each with three middle school team leaders. They will visit five different stations (Story, Snacks/Race, Fishing, Hoops, and Targets) and earn points for their team. The team with the most points at the end will be declared the winner! You can see the poster in the Lobby for dress up ideas. Student Council hopes that all the children will come and that they will have a great time!

Student Council: Second Hand Sale
We had a great Secondhand Sale this year. Special thanks to the people who donated items and money to the Student Council. In total we made about $450. Wow! Using the rest of the money we have after we pay the school tuition for Yaya and Mafoune, the children we are sponsoring in Africa, we are deciding how to donate the remaining money. Thanks again to all the people who helped this year’s Secondhand Sale go so well. We appreciate your support and will do our best to put this money to good use!

PSG Meeting: Tuesday 11th May
The next PSG meeting will take place in the Social Club at 8:15am on Tuesday 11th May.

Agenda

  1. Presidential Fitness
  2. Triathlon
  3. End of Year Ceremony
  4. School Events in 2010-11: Coordinators needed
  5. AOB

President’s Physical Fitness Test: Monday 3rd May
Once again the children rose to the challenge and many of them improved on the level they had been reaching during their President’s fitness training sessions. Thanks to the parents who came along to encourage the children. Certificates will be issued at the school End of Year Ceremony.

End of Year Ceremony: Saturday May 29th
At 10:00am on Saturday 29th we will hold our annual End of Year Ceremony. We will say goodbye to all the students who are leaving for new schools and this year we will also say goodbye to Mr. & Mrs. Person and Mr. & Mrs. Phelps. The children will receive their Presidential Fitness certificates, there will be some musical items and Mrs. Renee Lagorio-French will give the formal address to the children and parents. Following the ceremony there will be light refreshments in the Social Club.

Triathlon: Saturday 22nd May 10:00am to 11:30am
The children in Grades 1-8 have begun training for the DAIS Triathlon and the PreK-Kg children have also started practicing for their events.

Parent volunteers for Grades 3-8 have been found but we do not have any parents (apart from swimming) who we know can help with monitoring cycling and running for Grades 1-2. Please inform Charles if you could coordinate parent volunteers for Grades 1-2 or if you have time to help with some of the activities. Parents are needed to monitor the roads to keep the children safe from traffic as they ride and run on the Village roads. Any Dostyk Village adult who wishes to ride or run with the children is very welcome to do so.

The children have brought home a schedule to show what Grade 1 to 8 will be doing during their PE lessons in the next three weeks. Please review the schedules so you know what your child will need for each lesson. Please check that your child’s bike is in good working order and that they feel confident about riding around the Village. When your child is scheduled to swim they will need their own towel and a plastic bag to put their wet swimming items in. Until the large pool is ready we will use the indoor pool, hence the need for Grades 5-8 to be split into two groups. We will also display in the school lobby the schedules and the list of adult helpers in case you need to check.

The Pre-K and Kg event on and around Dostyk Village field will start the morning proceedings at 10:00am. The children will practice their activities during normal PE times and no additional adult help is necessary.

We are searching for adult monitors for the actual Triathlon itself so please let Charles know if you have a friend who can help on the 22nd May. Information will shortly be placed in the Dostyk Dispatch.

Early Leavers
If your children are leaving school before Thursday 3rd June please inform their teachers so that they can plan accordingly.
