Welcome to Hanna and Leighanne Masri
Today is the first day at school for Hanna and Leighanne Masri (Grade 1 and Grade 6). The children already in Grades 1 and 6 had been eagerly awaiting their arrival and it was good to see them visit school on Wednesday. Hanna and Leighanne have been attending St. Christopher’s School in Bahrain. Welcome also to Mr. & Mrs. Masri.

International Day of Peace Day
Thank you for supporting the children with their first presentation of the year and for helping them plant their “peace wheels” in the gardens. The afternoon visit to Victory Park was an excellent way to complete our day of peace activities. After placing flowers at the eternal flame the children sat in shady areas of the park and had stories read to them or considered different aspects of peace and also practiced some breathing exercises to help them feel calm. We have some very nice pictures from the activities and some of them will be on the school website shortly (www.daiskz.org).

Progress Reports
On Thursday 30th September the children will be bringing home their first Progress Report of the new school year. This report is to give you an initial impression of how the children have settled into school and to note the start they have made with their work.

Student Council
The Student Council has been busy brainstorming ideas about various activities they will create in the coming months for all DAIS children. Some of the activities may require some parent help and guidance and we’re sure the Homeroom moms will be a great link when help is needed. Some of the activities will be fund raisers, some will be with QSI and others will be to just have a good time here in school.

The Backyard Café
On Friday 24th September – tomorrow – William, Logan, Matthew, Guan Jie, and Caleb have organized the Backyard Café. The café will be located behind and in the backyard of Town House 136.
Opening Hours: 4:00pm to 6:00pm.

Monies raised at the café will go to a local charity and to the school Student Council who support several worthwhile causes around the world.
“Start with weekend with some delicious snacks at great prices”

Parent Handbook
Occasionally we will include a section from the Parent-Student Handbook in the Gazetta. This week it is a note about birthday celebrations.

“Birthday celebrations may be held at school with simple treats provided for the whole class. Please do not have gift giving at school. Arrangements for class celebrations must be made in advance with the classroom teacher. For parties outside of school, please do not distribute invitations at school unless each child in that class receives an invitation.”
